FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

In a nutshell, GEOTAC is the world’s most comprehensive multi-vehicle tracking solution that combines pinpoint location information with advanced reporting, customized alerts, familiar mapping technologies and reliable uptime in a simple and user-friendly web-based interface.

Most tracking solutions simply include the location of vehicles. GEOTAC goes well beyond by providing birds-eye animations of your vehicles while they are on the road (or off it for that matter). Furthermore, the GEOTAC solution, which is bundled with all ancillary services, is provided with every feature available by default.

Most companies charge additional fees for reporting or bill per report. With GEOTAC, your monthly subscription cost includes all reporting. There are no unpleasant surprises on your bill.

Operation of the GEOTAC system begins with the installation of our proprietary GPS unit and modem. Powered by the vehicle, the unit obtains location co-ordinates and relays them to our servers in pre-determined intervals.

This information is processed in milliseconds and represented on your custom reporting facility. Comprehensive maps underlay the location points, creating continual location analysis in real-time.

The purpose of this feature is to identify and list the vehicles closest to a specific location/address.

Select the CALCULATE VEHICLE DISTANCE button from the LIVE screen and enter an address to which you need to send a vehicle.

The system will list all of your vehicles, along with the approximate distance they would need to travel in order to arrive at the selected destination.

This will allow operators to select send the best suited vehicle to the destination resulting in prompt customer service and quicker response times.

The map view is enabled by default on the LIVE page.

The interface is very intuitive and responds to standard mouse actions such as double-clicking or dragging.

Map Navigation options:
Operators can use the directional keys to shift the map view left, right, up or down. The Plus and Minus keys will zoom in and out respectively.

GEOTAC's systems make use of two mapping software technologies - Google Maps and OpenStreetMaps.

The combination of technologies affords the customer the most comprehensive mapping system available.

Operators can choose multiple views when accessing vehicle data in bird's-eye view mode: MAP, SATELLITE, HYBRID and OSMAPS.

MAP view: This is the default and most popular view. This shows a map with a traditional depiction of roads, parks, borders, bodies of water and more.

SATELLITE View: This shows aerial imagery.

HYBRID view: Satellite view with street names and geographical information overlaid above the image.

OSMAPS view: This view switches between Google Maps and OpenStreetMaps in order to allow users to source addressing that may not be available across both sources.

Click on the HISTORY link on the navigation bar once you have logged into the memebers section.

USING THE FILTER

This section will enable the operator to view the specific travel history of each vehicle listed in their vehicle list.

  1. Begin by selecting the vehicle on which you would like to report from the VEHICLE list.
  2. Select the date drop-down menus to define the date for which you would like to display data, or click on the calendar button and select the relevant date.
  3. Enter the time range for which you wish to search by editing the TIME FROM and TIME TO menu options.
  4. Select the STOPPED FOR MOR THAN menu dropdown in order to filter by length of stoppage time.
  5. Click on submit.

You will then be presented with a detailed description of an historic trip in a format to which you have now become accustomed.
SHOW AND HIDE ALL

In most cases, data is displayed for a number of vehicles, and this can cause a cluttered map view.
In the HISTORY section, we have included a SHOW/HIDE option that allows the operator to manage this effectiely.

  1. The HIDE ALL/SHOW ALL toggles the full list of checkboxes making all vehicles/trips visible/hidden.
  2. The SHOW menu allows operators to select specific vehicles as shown/hidden.

WHY SHOW ONLY ONE TRIP

Although each vehicle's trip data is colour-coded, when an operator requires an uncluttered view of a specific vehicle, they can choose to display that vehicle only.
WHAT DOES THE DATA MEAN

When viewing a specific vehicle's trip data, the operator is presented with a map view and a set of trip data in table format.

The following information is displayed:

  1. # The associated map pin for that specific vehicle.
  2. SHOW Use the checkbox to toggle visibility of that specific vehicle.
  3. START - END The origin and destination for each trip.
  4. JOURNEY Start time, distance and max. speed synopsis.
  5. DESTINATION: A brief synopsis of the time, duration and length of the stoppage selected.
  6. PLAY The PLAY button will animate that specific trip.

DRIVING DIRECTION

Each trip's mapped path is represented by a coloured line. The directional arrows visible on the line indicate the travel direction.

Each device is attached to a specific vehicle and remains installed in that vehicle for the remainder of the time it is in use.
Drivers, however change on a regular basis. This section allows you to manage which drivers are assigned to each vehicle at any specific time.

Select ASSIGN A DRIVER from the LIVE page.
Select a driver from the ASSIGN menu, and their allocated vehicle from the TO menu.
Click on the ASSIGN button to create the association between driver and vehicle.

The process of adding additional driver (temporary or permanent staff) could not be simpler.

Select DRIVERS from the navigation menu and enter the FIRST NAME, LAST NAME and MOBILE NUMBER of the driver.

The FIRST NAME and LAST NAME fields are required, but it is suggested that the mobile number field be included to facilitate easier communication with drivers while in transit.
